Innovation-First driver-less bus in South Tyrol,Italy

Making a few hundred meters with an electric, driverless vehicle is great achievement Italy. The first such journey was made on 25. November on an urban route in Merano on a 15-seater electric minibus without a driver. This is a week-long trial. And it is no coincidence that it takes place in South Tyrol: the green region, at the forefront of sustainability and innovation (especially in the field of automotive), center of gravity between North and South of Europe. "The future of mobility is digital and connected. For this reason, we are working to ensure that public transport is preferred to the private car. All citizens were invited to test the self-driving bus to learn about this new mode of transport," says Daniel Alfreider, mobility councillor for the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

Mentor, this three-year project, aims to rethink the mobility of the Alpine regions of South Tyrol and Switzerland. Its aim is to connect small towns with each other. There are three phases of the project: building and implementing a bike sharing service, creating the culture (and platform) for car pooling and rethinking the concept of public transport, collecting user requests and creating a tailor-made service for them.
