IS MALTA ABOUT TO GET ITS OWN ‘LONDON EYE’?

Is Malta about to get its own 'London Eye'?

Malta could soon have its own version of the London Eye.

Ambitious plans have been unveiled for a massive sightseeing wheel near the Granaries in Floriana.

Just like the London Eye, it would have a series of pods which can each seat six people.

The proposed wheel, which would be 45-metres high, would be built on a car park next to the Granaries.

It would be considerably lower than the London Eye, which rises to 135-metres.

The businessman behind the ambitious project, Liam Mangion, said the 'Malta Eye' would offer spectacular views across Valletta, Floriana, the Grand Harbour, Manoel Island and Sliema Creek.

He told MaltaToday: 'I saw the success observation wheels have throughout major cities across Europe so I asked, 'Why not Malta?'

'The wheel will produce a lot of smiles, excitement and positive marketing for our island, whilst respecting the skyline.'

The London Eye is one of the city's most popular attractions, with more than 3.5 million customers a year.
