Malta prides itself of the largest register of superyachts in the world
Malta has the biggest register worldwide of superyachts, with 850 vessels bigger than 24m, according to the Transport Minister Ian Borg.
Speaking at a press conference, Borg said that despite the effects of the COVID pandemic on the economy, Malta has seen a 7% increase in the number of registered yachts over 2020 alone.
Over the past five years, the Maltese maritime register for luxury vessels has increased by 50% increase.
The Maltese Transport minister highlighted that this proves that the industry is based on “quality, reputation and confidence.”
Borg was referring to superyachts for specialized sectors on top of the regular seafaring operators. This is significant in generating employment for catering staff and other specialized services.
One of the key initiatives of the Transport Ministry is focusing on involve promoting green yachts with less harmful emissions.
Borg pointed out that greener alternatives are given preference, as Malta is promoting green alternatives in other transport sectors too.
