GRAPE HARVEST TIME: WINE FESTIVALS IN TUSCANY IN SEPTEMBER

Some of the top celebrations dedicated to the beloved grape

Tuscany continues to amaze throughout the fall season. Moving beyond the beach, you can indulge in relaxation at some of the most famous spas in the world, discover the Chiantigiana countryside or visit the most beautiful medieval towns in Italy, where time seems to stand still.

For those who love nature-based vacations, you should definitely spend a few days visiting Chianti: this postcard-like landscape in the hills and vineyards can also be explored by bike. Along the paths and tiny streets there's always something that will catch your attention: abbeys, churches, castles and villas add to the fairy-tale like feel of the landscape.

The end of summer marks the beginning of the grape harvest. Countless festivals dedicated to wine are held in the most beautiful villages in Tuscany. Wine experts and amateur wine lovers will have a great time as they stroll through these towns, glass in hand, discovering the best of one of the region's most esteemed products.

Some of the best wine festivals in Tuscany scheduled for September

Second weekend in September

Festa delle Cantine in Manciano

The festival's website says it best: “For locals, Festa delle Cantine is a chance to catch up with old friends in the name of tradition and free wine – a good enough reason to party on its own. For tourists, the festival is a chance to experience Manciano at its liveliest on a weekend when everything from the food to the music is authentic and inspiring.”

Third weekend in September

Vino al Vino Festival in Panzano in Chianti

During the third weekend in September, winemakers in Panzano in Chianti get together in piazza Bucciarelli to promote their best products. Vino al Vino is a good opportunity to taste different kinds of wines, visit a beautiful village and enjoy some music.

End of September

Grape Festival in Impruneta

Founded in 1926, the Grape Festival in Impruneta is one of the longest-running Italian festivals. Popular dances, performances, tastings of agricultural products and shows are held all day long. During the celebration, the town's four neighbourhoods challenge each other to make the best float.

Grape Festival in Chiusi

For more than 30 years, Chiusi has been hosting its Grape Festival. The event offers a collection of road shows, concerts, parades of allegorical floats, guided tours and wine and food tastings at the many historical wineries and tasting points in town.
