MORE OF US THAN EVER ARE GOING TO GOZO

Malta's pretty little sister is breaking new tourism records, according to the latest official figures.

Passenger numbers on the Gozo Channel ferries soared by nearly 8 per cent in the first three months of the year.

The total smashed the 1.1 million mark for the first time between January and March 2018.

The boost for Gozo comes after major events such as the massive Nadur Carnival and Valentine's Day celebrations in Victoria.

Gozo also hosts some of the most picturesque locations in the Maltese Islands, such as Dwejra, Ramla Bay, Xlendi Bay and The Citadel in Victoria.

A spokesman for the Office of National Statistics in Valletta said: 'The highest number of passengers was recorded in March – 450,363 or 40.2 per cent of the total for the quarter.

'The number of vehicles increased by 5.9 per cent, totalling 339,266.

'The number of trips amounted to 5,259, an increase of 0.8 per cent over the same period in 2017.'

During the three months, passenger traffic from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays.

The highest numbers from Mġarr were recorded on Sundays and Saturdays
